II. BIG MORAL PROBLEMS AND THE SEARCH FOR GOOD SOLUTIONS.
People living
together has brought many problems to different societies. Our desire is not
always someone else´s desire and conflicts appear. There are Universal
Conflicts in every society and Morals (system of principles and judgements
within a community) look for solutions.
Rules to solve problems
When we study
the history of different cultures we notice there are some problems which
happen in all of them and because of their importance and seriousness, when
those problems are not well solved, they can finish in a tragedy. Those are
called Moral problems because they
affect people´s happiness and dignity.
Moral
problems:
-The value of
life:
Can we kill?
-Duties for
the community:
What is more important, the Community or the person?
-Powerful
people and the way they work:
Who has the right to kill?
-The way to
solve conflicts:
Are strong people always right?
-Wealth,
property and its distribution:
There are poor people and rich people, is it fair?
Should Private property disappear?
-Taking care
of the weak:
Do we have to take care of the
weak/ill people or let them die?
-Relations
with foreigners and different people:
How should we behave with those
who are not similar to us?
-The
Hereafter, the Death and the Gods:
Is there
anything after death?
Should I obey
God?
These are
universal problems and different cultures have given different answers. Some
considered they could kill, others thought they couldn´t
and some considered they could never kill, nor animals. Some cultures abandoned
old people to death while in other cultures old people governed.
